I’ve been working on some things: new things dervied from existing forms. It’s a fun challenge to take an object that’s fully conceived and reimagine its paramters.
At home I use various ceramic rejects as ashtrays so I thought a purpose-built ashtray would be a smart first experiment. The Ramekin was the perfect starting point — not too big for a coffee table, deep enough to keep ashes contained, and easy to modify.
I used a simple angled hole punch (the same one I use to make drainage holes in planters) just above the line that already exists on the interior. Glazed in exactly the same way as the Ramekin, the Ashtray has been born!
